**All Big E Welcome events are mandatory for all first-year students (including all on-campus residents and commuter students.) Transfer students with less than 30 credit hours are expected to attend. Transfer students with more than 30 credit hours and Regional campus students are welcome to attend the Big E Welcome but will need to email firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up for the program.
Friday, August 17
Big E Move-In
Your Residence Hall (During your assigned move-in time)
EKU Housing is excited to welcome all new Colonels to their home away from home! Take the morning and afternoon to get settled into your room and get to know your roommate. Colonel Crew Leaders, Residence Hall Staff, and Volunteers will help you check-in and move your belongings into your room. For more information regarding move-in please visit http://housing.eku.edu.
Commuter Student Check-In
Whitlock Building: 4PM-5:30PM
Commuter students will check into the Big E Welcome between 4PM-5:30PM on August 17th on the 1st floor of the Whitlock Building.
Residence Hall Community Meetings
Your Residence Hall (Check your hallway for directions to your community’s specific location): 5PM-5:45PM
This meeting will provide you the opportunity to become informed of important policies and procedures that are in place to help build an environment that is conducive to academic pursuit and personal growth. This meeting is mandatory for all students living on campus.
Colonel Crew Kick-Off Meeting 1
Designated Locations Around Campus: 6PM
Students will meet their Colonel Crew Leader at their designated locations around campus. Upon check-in, you will be told where to meet your Colonel Crew Leader. We hope you're as excited as us to meet your group!
Big E Photo & Playfair
Alumni Coliseum, Roy Kidd Football Stadium: 7:30PM
How much EKU spirit do you have? You will not want to miss this fun tradition of building the Big E on the Roy Kidd Stadium football field, as well as participating in the largest team-building event! Playfair is both an entertainment and team-building event that helps new students make instant campus friendships. Get to know other members of your class with an energy-packed hour of ice-breakers and team builders.
Big E Bash
Fitness & Wellness Center: 9:00PM
Learn about everything EKU Campus Recreation has to offer at this annual event featuring free food, giveaways, and the classic foam party! You won’t want to miss out.
Saturday, August 18
Case Kitchen: 7AM-8:15AM
Students are encouraged to eat breakfast in the Fresh Food Company before starting the day. Students will use their meal plan by swiping their Student ID in the dining facility.
Colonel Crew Meeting 2
Designated Locations Around Campus: 8:15AM
Students will meet their Colonel Crew leader at their designated meeting location. This time will be used to get excited for the day ahead!
Class of 2022 Welcome Walk
Keen Johnson Steps: 8:45AM
Students will meet their Colonel Crew leader at their designated meeting spot and will then travel to the steps of Keen Johnson. President Benson will welcome the Class of 2022 to the university and discuss EKU traditions including Turner Gate. President Benson will then lead the students down the street and through the Turner Gate as a symbolic start of your collegiate journey at EKU.
College Open Houses
Check with your Colonel Crew Leader for the specific location of your college open house: 9:45AM
The faculty and staff of your college look forward to greeting you and welcoming you to campus! This will provide a great opportunity to get a feel for your major, what to expect for the next four years, and meet students who share the same interests as you. If you are an exploratory student you will have the opportunity to connect with faculty and staff from multiple disciplines.

Case Kitchen: 12PM-2PM (Designated times for each color group)
Students will meet with their Colonel Crew group at their designated location and then head to lunch in the Case Dining Hall. Students will have the opportunity to further get to know each other. Students will use their meal plan by swiping their Student ID in the dining facility.
Maximize Your Buzz
EKU Center for the Arts: 2:30PM
Through comedy, multimedia, and practical tips and advice, students learn to make values-based choices about alcohol. Widely considered as the "perfect blend" of entertainment and practical message, your students will leave having had a great time, as well as, equipped with safe practices for better decision-making. Let’s change behaviors by shifting perceptions: “Alcohol is not about drinking; it’s about who you are.”

Take a tour of campus with your Colonel Crew and find out the best route to your classes and the location of important campus resources.

Zero Shades of Gray
EKU Center for the Arts: 7:30PM
Zero Shades Of Gray sets the tone that sexual assault is black and white. There are no disclaimers, no clauses, and no fine print when it comes to how people feel about being sexually assaulted or raped. It’s serious to the victim, and this seminar helps students understand that this isn’t a victim problem, it’s a problem on all levels. Let’s change behaviors by shifting perceptions: Assault is not a women’s issue, or a men’s issue, it’s a human issue.
Keen Johnson Extravaganza
Keen Johnson Building: 9PM
Think you've got game? Join EKU Student Life & First-Year Experience at this annual Colonel tradition in Keen Johnson. Enjoy real casino table games, card games, glow dance party, food trucks and more. Prizes and plenty of food are provided. You won’t want to miss out!

New Student Convocation & President’s Picnic
EKU Center for the Arts: 3PM
The New Student Convocation marks the beginning of the new academic year and is your official welcome to the University academic community. This is a celebration to welcome new students, faculty, and staff back to campus for another great year at Eastern. Immediately after the convocation, join us for the President’s Picnic featuring free food, festivities, and campus engagement opportunities.
Meijer Mania (Optional Event)
Board shuttles at Keen Johnson: 8PM-10PM
Join us for an exclusive shopping event at the Richmond Center Meijer featuring giveaways, prizes, and plenty of deals on the perfect merchandise to prepare you for your first year as a Colonel. Shuttles will leave from Powell Student Center.
